Ojibwe Custom Beadwork
Under Construction
Precious Metal Clay™ (PMC) is a revolutionary new craft material developed and patented by Mitsubishi Materials Corporation of Japan. It feels like potter's clay but when objects are fired in a kiln they are transformed into pure precious metal! The secret is microscopic particles of silver and gold suspended in an organic binder that burns out to leave solid metal.
Who's using PMC? Jewelers, potters, beadmakers, enamelists, and miniaturists. Professional artists and hobbyists, children and adults, experienced designers and first-time makers are all enjoying the endless possibilities PMC provides.
The Level I class presents the basic techniques in the use of PMC. The projects include simple ring forms, pendants, beads, hollow forms, filigree and brooches. The projects incorporate other materials into the PMC forms, using such things as CZ's or lab grown gemstones, glass cabochons, ceramics and paper. We learned how to use each type of PMC (clay, paste, syringe and sheet) individually and in combinations to make hollow forms, filigree, coiled and slab forms. Understanding how to handle each form of PMC gives the us greater flexibility in using PMC. This increases the versatility of the material and opens the us to greater creative possibilities. Introduction classes presented by the certified artisan is an artistically profitable experience.
I studied at the home Studio of Senior Instructor, Leslie Tieke, and have been certified as a Level 1 Artisan in Precious Metal Clay. I also took Leslie's PMC & Enameling Class.
